Taking top honors on the hit UK reality competition, Matt Cardle was crowned winner on the just-finished season of "The X Factor" on Sunday night (December 12).
With over 20 millions viewers tuning in, the 27-year-old beat out Rebecca Ferguson and One Direction to garner the grand prize of a $1.5 million recording deal.
Clearly overwhelmed, Cardle broke down to tears as he told the audience, "Thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone who voted for me. It feels really good to be putting a record out soon. To be the last man standing is just mind blowing."
Quite pleased with the outcome, Matt's mentor on the program, Danii Minogue, said, "He totally deserves it. Rebecca was incredible competition tonight. He didn?t really believe he had it."
Meanwhile, runner-up Miss Ferguson - who was mentored by judge Cheryl Cole - graciously told press after the announcement, "I'm so happy, so grateful and Matt's amazing. I'm just so happy to have got this far."
